As we venture down Swiss Blvd. and turn left, we find Cheddarville's police and fire departments. The town is pretty quiet but we can always count on the police officers and firefighters to help out in a jiffy. Did you know that in Colonial America, the county sheriff was the most important law enforcement official? True! And In the American Old West, law enforcement was carried out by local sheriffs, rangers, constables, and federal marshals. I am sure you have read about the Old West. The city of Boston, Massachusetts, established America's first publicly funded, paid fire department in 1679, the Cincinnati Fire Department is the oldest paid fully professional municipal fire department in the United States, which was established in 1853. The history of police and the fire brigades is very interesting!
